Why does Opera Mini sometimes prevent me from opening new tabs?

Sometimes when I switch to tab view to open new tab, the new tab icon is replaced with dark gray "ninja icon" that does nothing.
Why does this happen?I assume that the dark ninja icon is supposed to indicate something, but how on earth am I, or anyone else to read it? All I know is that sometimes the light and easy to see + icon isn't there, and on its place is a dark smudge on a dark background that I could make out only after taking a screenshot and zooming in - and it's a tiny ninja! Like, wth!?!?

@robsku The (+) turns into a ninja if you currently have more than 99 tabs open. This can also be seen on the tabs icon next to the ninja, where a shuriken is shown instead of the amount of open tabs. The little ninja icon prevents you from overwhelming the app with 99+ tabs, so try closing them.

@33rn thank you for the information, that makes sense.
I have one continuation question for that: since I asked that I've closed less tabs than I have opened from other applications (mostly from my email app), so does that mean I now have more than 99 tabs, or does some previously opened tab get overwritten? I've never had Opera Mini refuse opening a link from some other application.
Edit: nevermind, I got my answer when I closed one tab and still couldn't open new ones - I then tried opening 2 more from K9-Mail, and it worked. Apparently I've gone over 99 by several tabs now - time to close some down
