I just got a new PC and I've been trying to get old Opera GX to work on it.
I used the old install and it wouldn't start, it would make it so that Opera started but it would create new settings for the current PC.
I guess that's because I probably checked install for current pc during the old installation.
I tried copying over the install from appdata/local and /roaming to the new user files and starting again and it starts but with older bookmarks? All my newer bookmarks aren't there, but when I check the bookmarks file I can see the newer bookmarks in it.
      Any help?
      Thanks.

When you put "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable" on another computer, only some things will work as the profile is protected based on the user account and Windows installation it was created with. So, installation status of your extensions, data for your extensions, your stored passwords, secure preferences, and a lot of other things won't be accessbile (Opera won't be able to decrypt them) on the other/new computer.

Your "Bookmarks" file should be readable on the other/new PC though.

With that said, you should rename the roaming "Opera GX Stable" folder so that Opera creates a new one that's all correct etc. Then, close Opera GX and replace its "Bookmarks" and "BookmarksExtras" files with the old ones. That should work for bookmarks at least. But, if you still don't see your new bookmarks (and you looked at the URL opera://bookmarks everywhere), your old Bookmarks file might be corrupted or the missing, newer bookmarks are stored in some category/folder in the Bookmarks file that Opera doesn't recognize (unless it's the Trash which is available at the URL opera://bookmarks).

As for other things, if you still have the old PC and can still run Opera on it, you can export a few things so that they can be imported into Opera on the new PC. For example, there's a bookmarks export option at the bottom left of the opera://bookmarks page. There's the 3 dots to the right of "saved passwords" at the URL opera://settings/passwords where you can export your passwords and then import them into the new Opera (same 3 dots) as long as you have opera://flags/#password-import on.

@burnout426 Thanks, I'll use the bookmark tip. Is there any way to get settings of the browser and extensions (and their settings)? A lot of fine tuning went into it. Thanks.

For general Opera settings, they're in the "Preferences" file in the profile folder. If you open the file with JSONedit in tree mode, you'll see how things are organized.

You might be able to replace the "Preferences" file in the new profile folder with your old preferences file to get your basic settings back. You'll have to try and see. If that doensn't work though, you could use JSONedit to copy some settings over from the old Preferences file to the new one. But, that would take way more time that just going through and recustomizing.

As for extensions, you're out of luck with that.

Note that if you can still load Opera on the old PC, you can log into Opera Sync and sync settings, bookmarks, passwords, opened tabs, and history etc. Then, you can log into Opera Sync on the new computer and all that stuff should (Sync is buggy sometimes) just sync to the new Opera. This won't help with extensions though.

@burnout426 Thank you. Are the settings for the extensions in the preferences file as well?

@burnout426 Thank you. I was going to edit my previous post but I have one last question. The bookmarks file seems to not indeed contain the latest bookmarks. At that time I was experimenting with different user-data-dir and stuff and I wonder where Opera could have saved them?

You could use Windows search to search for "Bookmarks". Maybe you'll find the one that has the newer bookmarks in it.
