"Invalid e-mail" error message when creating an Opera account

Opera deleted my long-dormant account four months ago. I missed the e-mail about needing to log-in to keep it active. Fair enough, that's on me.
Yesterday I realized I need an account again, and proceeded to create one. Problem is, it didn't allow me to register an account using my e-mail address. I got the "invalid e-mail" error. (My last, now-deleted account was connected to that e-mail. I tried to log in to the old account using my old credentials, just to make sure it didn't still exist, which would have explained why I couldn't open a new account using that same e-mail address. But the old account really was gone.)
I had to use an old e-mail address to create the Opera account I'm posting with now. As I haven't used this old e-mail in years, I obviously don't want to have my Opera account connected to it. When I tried to update the e-mail address for this account to my current e-mail address, I got the same message: "invalid e-mail".
Is it possible that Opera's systems have blacklisted my current e-mail address, because my last account was connected to that e-mail? That Opera recognizes an e-mail which has once been in its system but removed, and doesn't therefore allow it to be used to start a new account?
Opera's help guide includes the question "Why can’t I create a new account with the same email address as I used for an account I deleted?" The answer to that question is clear: "You can." I don't know why this shouldn't also be possible if Opera is the one which did the deleting.
So, are there any suggestions how to get past the "invalid e-mail" error message? Any way to contact Opera about it? I only found pages for reporting bugs and security issues in Opera. I doubt my issue falls in either of those two categories.
