Recover old Opera GX data after reinstalling windows
tortipoof last edited by
I just reinstalled Windows 10, Opera's folders seems to have been conserved, but when I launch Opera GX, i don't find my extensions, i'm disconnected from all websites, the history is empty and I don't have access to my saved passwords.
However, it opens all the tabs that were already opened before reinstalling Windows, and my Favorites are also synchronised.
So what can I do to restore all the previous Opera GX data ? Are the missing data stored somewhere else ?
Thanks in advance for your help,

The things you lost (cookies, passwords, extension installation status and extension data etc.) where encrypted/protected based on the user account and the install of Windows you were using. Now that Windows 10 is reinstalled and you're on a different account technically, those things are no longer accessible. There's not really much you can do about it without having Opera on the old installation of Windows 10.
You should start with a new profile since some of your profile files contain data in them that's no longer accessible (and my not accept new entries in some cases). You can then log into sync in the new profile and see what sync pulls in from the sync server. Then, you'll need to install all your extensions again. If your passwords are available on some other device, it'd be best to export them or save them in some way.
For opened tabs, you can right-click on a tab in the tab bar, goto "save", and choose "all tabs to a speed dial folder". Then, at the URL
opera://bookmarks, you can export your bookmarks to an HTML file. Then, you can import them into the new profile if sync doesn't pull them and the speed dial folder in. Then, for the speed dial folder that represents your opened tabs, you can right-click the folder and choose "open all in tabs".
