Sounds like an issue with Native Messaging not working.
Try installing the one at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/everykey-for-chrome/ihmelecnjfkpjfhnofdegegekeeoiiel in Opera instead. of the one at https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/everykey-for-opera/.
Also, see if you can get it working in Chrome first to make sure things work.
If all else fails in Opera GX, try in regular Opera to see if it works there. Sometimes Native Messaging is broken in Opera GX.

@tarbear123 I have reached out to our engineering team. Unfortunately, the Opera review team has not been reviewing our updates to the extension despite constant follow-ups, and so the extension available in the regular add-ons gallery, Opera Stable, is outdated and may not work correctly with the latest versions of the Everykey native applications.
The latest versions of Everykey for Opera are available on the Opera Developer and Opera Next addon galleries, and these will work with the latest versions of the Everykey native applications.
If you are not comfortable using Opera Developer or Opera Next as your daily browser then you can still install Everykey for Chrome in Opera Stable by following the instructions here: https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/install-chrome-extensions/
If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us at https://everykey.com/support
