Opera 24: lags, hangs, tab becomes full screen, other nuances

I used to love Opera, have been using for years, but seems the latest version (24) is becoming a bit aggravating. Namely, notice that sometimes I will switch between tabs at which time that particular tab will take over the full screen as if being in an optimized window, not allowing to view the normal Opera layout with tabs, menu, etc. At that point it hangs a bit and/or lags but after a bit of patience (about 30 seconds to a minute) tab will finally load completely and reduce in size to where it as well as all the other tabs can be seen.
Another lag/hang issue is that if I manually type a URL in the address bar, it can take quite a few seconds before what I type shows on the screen even with the cursor blinking there as if still waiting for my input.
Also notice that in 24 there is no easy way to import / export bookmarks and/or Stash information. Being somewhat hopefully, went ahead with the beta (25) version but didn't even transfer Stash over. Any solutions to these nuances?; checked the forum for a few hours and tried a few extensions but to no avail.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated -- would like to stick with 24 because of the options available in it, but can do without the aggravations.

Oh oh ... actually today had to restart whole OS due to Opera hanging at the start and freezing everything. Stability of it is poor, it seems to take even more resources than 12 took and it is becoming a such a burden that I am starting first time in years to consider switching out of opera. Presto had its issues but now I feel like this one is made of issues.
