Opera 12.16 Won't Open New Tabs/ Links

I recently upgraded my 12.15 Opera to 12.16, though
I usually have a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" policy with upgrades.I re-learned this lesson, as Opera 12.16 started capriciously refusing
to open certain pages, especially if I clicked "Open In New Tab."
But it wasn't only "Open In New Tab"--occasionally if I just clicked on a link
on an open page, I get a "server connection" error message.I'd get a big page of nothing with the notice that the connection with the server had failed;
if I tried to open the page in another browser (Chrome, e.g.) it would open without
a hitch.I reverted to Opera 12.15; things work again.
I run Ghostery and AdBlock, but disabling them did nothing for this
Opera 12.16 problem. Anybody else have this, or solve it?
