Opera >80 heavy flickering under WindowMaker

I have run Opera for many years now under WindowMaker. But from Opera 80 the screen is flickering heavily and makes the browser unusable. I use Vivaldi as a workaround (!) The screen is heavily flickering when hovering the mouse over:

1. the tabs
2. the URL bar
3. all active icons. Except:
   • the Privacy badger icon
   • the Extensions icon

Anyone an idea, a hint or a workaround? Other browsers (Vivaldi, Brave, FireFox, Chromium) work fine.
