Chewing Up Precious Data

I download Opera to limit my data usage thru my Verizon Jetpack and it worked fine for a few weeks, but a day ago the browser “hung up” while in use and I let it sit there while I used a different browser.
Unbeknownst to me the Opera browser was doing something chewing up my precious data to the total amount of 3 gb!! I have since uninstalled the problematic browser and will probably never use it again.
Has anyone else had this issue?
