Using Opera Mail Version 1.0 Build 1040 on Mac OS X 10.6.8

Today, it took 2 or 3 tries before it would start (as usual) but then it only retrieved messages from today only. All my past mail from all my accounts is not showing up at all. I've restarted Mail a few times but there has been no change. I need those emails.

I really like Opera Mail for the interface, quick search and labelling. I've always liked Opera browsers right from the beginning too. But I gave the browser up as my main browser when I got tired of it crashing all the time. Looks like the same flakiness is built into Opera Mail too 😞

I managed to retrieve my emails by reinstalling Mail and importing them (no doubt including all corruption too) so what do I do now? I don't want to go through this every time Mail gets flaky. Is there a way to repair the db without any hassle? Can I make a backup automatically every few hours that I can revert to? Can I export everything into mbox format and not have to import 1000 mailboxes with one message in each, like I would have to do now?

Opera is shooting itself in the foot with this lack of basic reliability and compatability.

Opera Mail is just Opera 12.16 with some browser stuff hidden. Opera Mail is experimental, unfinished and buggy. But, as far as mail stability goes, it should work the same as Opera 12.16.

With that said, are you talking about IMAP or POP accounts. If IMAP accounts, you just close down Opera, delete the mail folder, start Opera back up and add all your IMAP accounts back in. Make sure you don't use low-bandwidth mode with IMAP though as it won't sync as you like.

If POP, see this page for how to fix it without carrying over corruption. Save the page locally and open it if you're not using Opera 12 for a browser.

Thanks, Burnout. I'm trying to figure out a way way to automatically duplicate the mail folder every time I shut down Opera Mail, so that if it goes weird when I open it, I've something to switch to. Something new for me to learn...

Interesting about not using low bandwidth with IMAP - done that now. I have POP too and the page link you sent helps but it's quite a rigmarole, so I'll leave that for now. I think the corruption was connected to labels in some way. At the moment it is automatically labelling some emails that it shouldn't. It also shows 7 unread emails under the Labels sections, but there are none to be found. I'm expecting another crash soon...
