Can't sign in with Opera Mini to sync on Android

I downloaded Opera on my PC (Windows 10) today and am trying to sync with Mini on my Android Phone (Samsung Galaxy S9). I created an Opera account on the PC and should be good to go. However, if I scan the QR code from the PC screen, the phone just tells me to install the full Opera version (I can't find a way to scan it from within Opera Mini) and if I go to [Settings/Sync with Opera/Sign in/Sign in with Opera] on the phone, all I get i a white blank screen and nothing happens.

Isn't sync supposed to work on Mini??

@waiter Same, except I get a pop up menu where I can choose Login in with Opera, then I see a blank screen. That was on a a pretty old 3.5" Fly model with Android 4.4.2, so I thought that was the reason.
