saved information vanishes when new version of Opera is installed

For some time now, every time I allow a new version of Opera to be installed, I lose all my saved login information for sites, even Opera itself. Furthermore, there is no way to restore it. I have to re-enter the information the first time I want to log into a site. This can't be right. If it is, it's a deal-breaker. What's up?
