Why does Opera close all other browsers?

I accidentally installed Opera through a installer for some app...
When it was installed, Opera [Caps removed]!
I lost everything I was working on...I am truly dissappointed now.

What app "installed Opera"? Your post isn't clear ('caps removal' possibly edited out a relevant phrase?) about what the installed Opera actually did, though your title indicates it closed other browsers. Genuine Opera itself doesn't close other browsers, though the OS may have done something like that, depending on what else was going on. There's a real possibility that 'Opera' version was instead installed by a malicious installer crafted to do various things.

@operabrowserhater I think Opera is set as a default browser on yourssystem. So, no issue with that. You can still use other browsers or set any of them as a default browser.
