I got Opera 12.16. In mail treeview, how do I get rid of the bar in the middle that separates the email list from the email message?

Right-click on the toolbar, goto customize, then appearance, then toolbars. Change its placement from "top" to "off".
As for the header bar above the message, you can't really get rid of it. You can slim it down a bit though. See this page for more info.

Hi, Burnout. Your advice worked, thank you. But I got another problem. The font in the banner in the email list that says 'today' or 'yesterday' is in white and not black. It's not readable since the background color of the banner is white also. How do I fix it so that the font is black?

Are you talking about the date group headers (today, yesterday, earlier this week, earlier this month etc.)?
Do you have a modified color scheme in Windows?
If so, goto "Alt + P" -> web pages" and mess with the link/background colors. Or, goto the "Colors" section in opera:config and mess with those.
If that doesn't help, you might have to mess with the color scheme in Windows or change the skin you're using in Opera.

@burnout, I think they are using some form of Linux, unless they have posted in the wrong part of the forum.
If so, you may want to try changing the number associated to the following line below to '3' or '4'
opera:config#FileSelector|DialogToolkit
by pasting the above into the address bar and pressing enter, change the number and click 'Save'.
You may have to restart Opera for the changes to take effect.

Thanks. My fault. (Mail messages from Windows, Mac and *nix are grouped together in my client and I often forget to take notice which forum I'm in.)

I have Windows XP. Anyway, I tried your advice but it doesnt work. This is weird because when I changed the theme, the font color of the banner changed also. Now I cant get it back. Is there a code I can use in skin.ini to change the color?

Then why did you post in the 'Opera for *nix' part of the forum ?.
Topic moved.

FYI I dont know what nix means.Dont assume next time.
You don't need to know, there is a 'Windows' part of the forum.
Posting here only caused confusion.

Click the slanted wrench icon near the top right of Opera and turn off group by date.
