Swipe back/forward doesn't work

For some reason, shortly after installing Opera on my Mac (Catalina 10.15.3) the swipe gestures of back and forward stopped working.
I tried updating to the latest version but the bug persists. It actually persists for quite some time now. Too long actually.

Is there any fix? or should users look for alternative browsers considering that basic functions don't work?
