Incompatibility to Foxit PDF Reader (PDF download)

When I press on a link to a pdf file with Opera for Android (v55.2.2719.50740) and select 'Open' (or 'Download' and then 'Open'), my registered pdf viewer 'Foxit PDF Reader' is started, but cannot show the pdf file (error message in Foxit is: 'error when opening file').
When I use Chrome I have not such a problem.
My system is Android 8 on a Samsung Galaxy S7
