Similar problem is now happening to me and my colleague when trying to login to Santander, you can't even open the login page:

Size of a request header field exceeds server limit."If we use Edge there's no problem, only with Opera - updated today, but had already had the problem with previous version too.

Any difference if you open a private window in Opera and try there?
Any extensions installed? If so, disable them to test if one of them is the cause.
Did you try clearing cookies for santander.co.uk like suggested in the linked thread?

Problem solved. Thank you so much for your suggestions.
- Private window: Yes, it worked fine in a private window,
- Extensions: No, disabled all extensions, no difference.
- Clearing Cookies: I think it was this that fixed the problem.
I first cleared all cookies, history, and cached images, for the last 7 days - it made no difference.
Then Cleared them for 'all time' - and now the problem was fixed.
I will have my colleague try later, just doing the clear cookies, and see if it fixes the problem for him too.
