Cannot launch Opera after update

  • Hi!
Anyone else having troubles with Opera after update to 65.0.3467.38 on Ubuntu 18? I cannot launch the app and reinstalling it also does not help.

  • I also have problems after today update with snap on two separate systems. On one Opera refuse to start, on second one, Opera somehow uninstalled itself. After reinstall i lost all data in my profil.

  • Hello! I have no problems starting Opera 65.0.3467.38 on Linux Mint 19.2 based on Ubuntu 18.04.

  • Look at the Signature's BackUp Link.
Google for the path since Opera can't be started or check out other installed Browsers.

Also look at your OS's System Restore application.

    "Off Topic Tip"
Follow the Signature's Backup | Reset link.
Take the opportunity to start a Backup plan and even create a Template Profile.

    SyncBack | Synkron helps.

  • Yesterday the same thing happened to me using Debian 9 with the snap version, I fixed it by going back to the previous version with "snap revert opera" and then updating again with "snap refresh opera", after that Opera opened and worked properly, but later the snap version in snapcraft it was regressed to the version 64.0.3417.92 again and my system changed to that previous version by itself without problems luckily the profile wasn't deleted.

  • I had a similar problem on Ubuntu 16.04. Ended up reinstalling. Now I have Version: 64.0.3417.92 and it is running fine.

Lost all my bookmarks etc. Thanks Opera.

  • @luislongueira Actually on first system snap revert do the trick, and now i can lunch opera. However, i also lost my profile. My new empy profile i store in "/home/username/snap/opera/59/.config/opera", but there is also "59.old" folder.
Any chances to restore my profile?
PS: Strangely. snap revert change Opera version from 64 to 65. Snap refresh bring back 64.

  • I don't know if the 59.old folder is the deleted profile but before doing anything maybe it's a good idea to make a backup of that 59.old folder, just in case.
Sorry but I don't know if the lost Opera profile can be recovered, I can only think of trying the option "Update & Recovery" from the Opera menu, click on the Opera icon and in the displayed menu the second last option right next to "Exit".
About the commands "revert" and "refresh" on thursday for a few hours was uploaded in Snapcraft the version "65.0.3467.38" that caused Opera not to start, and hours later then apparently Opera's engineers removed that version and uploaded version "64.0.3417.92" back to Snapcraft, I think doing that caused people's profiles to disappear but I don't know why my profile didn't disappear.

  • @luislongueira 59.old was empty, howevere restoring my profile was as simple as changing name of folder 56 to 59.
