Disabling search suggestions

I recently updated Opera to version 53.1.2569.142848, and I've realised that Opera itself gives me search suggestions when I type anything into the URL address bar. Is there anyway to disable this?

Good question. Personally I find the suggestions useful but I experimented with turning them off. Going to Settings > Search and turning off the options for "Suggested sites", "Trending searches" and "Recent searches" looked like it should work. Just to be sure that Opera started with a clean slate, I went into Android Settings > Apps > Opera and force stopped Opera and cleared it's cache.
But it didn't. A restarted Opera and typed a single letter 'a' into the omnibox and Opera suggested a bunch of companies! including Amazon, airbnb and accuweather plus a bunch of unrelated URLs that I had visited in the past.
It looks like the switches to disable search suggestions are broken.

Same.Appeared all of a sudden, and the settings don't work. Not a very big problem, but extremely annoying. I hope it gets fixed soon.

I have the same problem. Search-related switches do not seem to do anything when it comes to search suggestions and history searches. I turn them on and I turn them off and the result is the same: suggestions and history still show for every search.
