I seem to be having an issue with Opera portable over different Windows versions.

Here is the issue I am having. I am running Opera Portable on my Windows 10 PC, but I also have Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 Ent. installed on external SSD drives. As with Firefox portable, I can just backup my entire Firefox portable installation over to my backup drive, then as I switch over to each different Windows version, I can then copy the main FF backup over the existing one. Therefore, all my FF versions are up to date. It is not so with Opera. If I take the entire OperaPortable64 folder and copy it over an existing one, then I have to login to every site again. I also make a backup of the "Cookie" file, but this doe snot solve the problem.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thank you very much in advance.

Saved passwords only work on the user account they were created with. When you transfer an install to another OS, it'll be a different user account and therefore you'll lose your passwords. It's a security measure.

With that said, other things like cookies and session data might be lost because of the same reason. I haven't tested. Did you check to see if your cookies are at least still present in opera://settings/siteData? If not and cookie files get wiped out after transferring to the other computer/OS, then it's probably done on purpose (even if it does suck).

When you copy the install to the computer, try deleting the target folder first instead of overwriting it just to see if it makes a difference. It shouldn't, but...

          Regarding passwords:

On PortableApps there is a "App Notes" section for both Chrome and Opera that mentions portability limitations for Chrome-based browsers (passwords, certificates, maybe extensions) [I used to use these PortableApps versions before].

The App Notes for Opera also say: "You must sync your password to Opera in order to preserve them as you move PCs or upgrade operating systems."

Maybe this could be a solution for @shedrock, if he's affected.
