Windows 7 last update super slow

I've got opera 60.0.3255.95 on a windows 7 pro, I7 8gig etc. Since teh last update it's been running incredibly slowly. It looks like it's spawning a new process every time I open a tab or a page and the processes aren't dying.

I have looked but can't find any threads here on the problem.

I really really wish I could turn off auto update. The latest one has messed up my start page and has lots of annoying but pointless changes. I'm actually typing this in firefox which I had to install because opera is so bad now.
