Youtube videos cut into white screen and buffer after re-entering from another tab

For the last few weeks I've been having problems with Youtube videos viewed from the Opera browser (latest update). The videos load and play fine but if I switch to another tab and then switch back, it will cut into a white screen and buffer for a few seconds before returning to normal. It happens most of the time to all videos but happens more often to live streams, and it's quite frustrating. It does not happen with other browsers.

Any help would be appreciated!
