[Solved]Minimized Opera won't restore

Updated to the latest Opera build and noticed, that Opera will not restore to a window, when it was minimized with the red button (macOS 10.14.4).
That's annoying. I had to minimize it with the yellow button....
Anyone else? -

I'm having this problem as well. It's not a breaking issue, but it's certainly annoying. The top-bar shows Opera so I just open a new window (command + N). It would be nicer to have this issue fixed though.

Given that, ever since the launch of OSX/MacOS, the red button has been "Close Window" and the yellow button has been "Minimise Window", that is entirely what you should expect.

macOs knows both behaviors: yellow button for "minimize" and red button for "minimize". If you open Safari for example and then minimize it with the red button, macOS will close the window, but not terminate the app! Click the red button again and macOs will "restore" (open) instantly a (new) window again but not the old session. That's what I meant.

Until Opera 60.0.3255.27 the behavior was as expected: You "minimize" Opera with the red button and it will be (active) in the dock. Click the Opera-Icon in the dock again and it will open instantly a new window. That's what I want. With the latest Opera ..... .65 a click on the (active) Opera-Icon in the dock causes... nothing. The Opera app appears in the menu bar without a new window, you have to click inconvenient "Open a new window" or "Open a new tab" in the (context)- menu.

It works properly for me. Just a thought, though: do you have multiple desktops? If so, could opera be opening the window on a different desktop from the current one?
I notice, for instance that if I have an app in full-screen—which is my normal way of working with Opera—MacOS creates a new temporary desktop for that. If I then go to the desktop on which I launched Opera, the opera menu-bar is still there, but there is no Opera window on it. Could something like that be happening to you? By the way, I have Opera set to launch on Desktop 2 out of three.

EDIT: As you were. I've just discovered I wasn't fully updated. Now I'm on 60.0.3255.56, I'm seeing the same as you. I have to say, it doesn't impact me on the way I work, but yes, let's hope the devs do something about it!

The initial description of this issue is incorrect. It's not a minimize/restore problem. A more accurate description would be "Closed Opera Dock icon won't open a new window or new tab."
There's something about the old Dock icon that isn't working. Remove and re-add it.
- Close Opera.
- Right-click on the Opera icon in the Dock and under Options, Remove from Dock.
- Use Spotlight to run Opera.
- Right-click on the Opera icon in the Dock and under Options, Keep in Dock.
I'm not sure what changed, but removing and re-adding the icon fixed it for me.

Thank you for your specification. Your fix isn't working for me. Removed the old Dock-Icon and adding a new has no effect. Still the same issue.

I noticed, that the Opera-Icon in the program folder (symbolic view) is not the app itself, if you (right)click on "information", it will indicate, that "Opera" is a folder...
So if you drag this Icon bona fide in your Dock, there is a sort of "folder" instead the app. It seems there is something wrong with the installation itself.
Normally a folder has its Folder-Icon, not the App-Icon. -

I'm with @operaoperandi here. For many years now my dock has been empty except for Finder, Trash and any apps that are actually running, and I always open apps using spotlight. And Opera no longer re-opens with a window.@operaoperandi, unless I'm not following what you say correctly, In my applications folder, if I right click on Opera.app and choose "Get Info", it tells me it is an app, not a folder. It also behaves like other apps when right-clicked, offering "Show Package Contents", which doesn't happen with a folder. Do you have extensions switched off by any chance?

@xiamenese, well it's strange, but this "Folder"-behavior from the Opera-Icon I have only in the symbolic view (big Icons and the name of the app). Right-clicking this Icon leads to the context-menu of a folder (new folder...information...Import from...etc.). All other Program-Icons are displaying the expected context-menu, as you mentioned (Show Package content...etc.) If I change to List-view, Opera shows also the correct context-menu. For me its strange but reproducible.

@operaoperandi You're right. But just as I keep my dock—and my desktop—as minimal as I can, I never use Icon View for Finder windows, always Column View.
However, having changed to Icon View to check, then back to Column View and back to Icon View once more, Opera now shows the Show Package Contents on right click! I'll see if it survives a shut down and re-boot, but my guess is not; not going to do it now, though.

Just adding my voice in support/agreement with this. I'm having the same problem, and while not the end of the world, it is irritating. @dbraunschweig's fix doesn't work for me. Makes no difference.

What do you mean, restore with the red button? There is no red button if the window is minimized or if the interface is closed. There is just an image in the dock. If you click the image in the dock, you get back the window.

What do you mean, restore with the red button? There is no red button if the window is minimized or if the interface is closed. There is just an image in the dock. If you click the image in the dock, you get back the window.
@concretable The precise point here is that if you click the image in the dock, you DON'T get the window back. If you close all your windows with the red button, you have to either do "file-new window/tab" or "cmd-n" to get a new window to open. The icon in the dock does nothing (unless you quit Opera completely and start again). That's the issue we're talking about.

I ended up restoring an earlier version of the opera app from Time Machine and disabling automatic updates. To disable, open a terminal window and enter this command:
$ defaults write com.operasoftware.Opera OPDisableAutoUpdate true -

It must depend on the version of MacOS being used, then, since I get the window back if I click the icon in the dock.
