Search bar goes to Google results page, which disappears from history after clicking a link from the results

When I type into the location/search bar starting from the Speed Dial page, it produces the usual Google search results page as usual. When I find the result that I want, I click on it and go to that page. All of this is normal. However, when I hit the back button, I would like it to take me back to the Google results page. Often, it just send me back to the Speed Dial page. I cannot get back to the Google results page and it has completely vanished from the history, too. This shouldn't be the way that the browser functions. Is there any way that I can fix this behavior and make it work as it should? Thanks.
