How to set Open Link In New Tab as default?

I cannot find a way to set 'Open Link In New Tab' as the default. I can see there is a right-click menu item to do this but I would rather it was the default for a left click on the link.

You can also use Middle-click or Shift + Middle-click.

Thanks but I don't have a middle button, a simple default to left click would be fine for me if it's possible to set it up like that?
