No or partial remail reception

For some time now I noticed that Opera Mail did not receive, or at least show, all email. I discovered that when some email I should have received did not arrive, and I used another client in which it did show up. Now there is a turn for the worse. Other email clients (one on OSX, one on iOS) both show new mail, whereas Opera mail refuses any new mail to receive. For me, Opera Mail has become a liability. Is there anything that might explain this behaviour? Suggestions will much appreciated.

Is this a POP or IMAP account?
