cant import bookmarks from edge

I installed opera and it is working fine apart from the fact I cant import my bookmark list from microsoft edge, it says the browser is open and it cant import while it is running
I have closed all edge windows and even unpinned it from the taskbar as well as restarting my computer, any ideas on why it wont import and how I can fix it? really dont fancy inputting them all manually
should also note it will import from IE but those bookmarks are years out of date so not much help to me
