Data Savings Apparently Completely Disabled in Latest Update?!

I have been using Opera Mini for years.
I have had a 2GB/mo data plan for those years. (Verizon, if it matters).
I have consistently had about 0.25-1.0gb left over at the end of the month.
My monthly plan reset as of 6/8/18.
My mobile browsing habits have not changed in the past month.
In the 5 days since my plan reset those same browsing habits that consistently left me with about 0.5gb have consumed the entirety of the 2.0 gb in my plan plus the 0.34gb left over from the last monthly cycle.
Opera Mini updated to a new version sometime around the 5th.
My phone stats confirm that Opera MIni is using nearly all of that data.
On a probably related note, Opera Mini consistently blocked ads in the past except for the occasional interstitial ad; now, in Automatic or High modes, pages are C.R.A.W.L.I.N.G. with ads (in Extreme mode, no part of literally any page ever loads).
Guys... (and/or non-guys)
What's going on?

First of all, I am really sorry about your wasted data plan. The good news is that we have identified an issue affecting some subset of Android phones and the fix is on the way. Can you please try to install Opera Mini beta 35.1 from Google Play and check if it works for you with High mode? A confirmation that it works would be very helpful for us.
