Opera for Android 46.1 using excessive mobile data

Using Opera 46.1 for Android
Phone is Nexus 5X on Google Fi
Android version is 8.1.0

This problem seems to have started a month ago. I have the phone set to data savings mode, and I have WiFi nearly everywhere I am. Opera itself is also set to data savings mode.

However, beginning about 4 weeks ago, Opera comprises about 90% of mobile data usage. In the past 12 days, Opera has used 900MB data, after using about the same in the previous month. Before this however, Opera's mobile data usage was minimal (in the hundreds of kb monthly), since the phone has access to WiFi.

Opera's WiFi data usage is only about 20% of total WiFi usage. As another point of comparison, the Reddit app used only 200 kb mobile data last month, and 1.6 GB on WiFi.

Opera appears to be using mobile data even when the phone is set to priortize the usage of Wifi.
