More and more sites keep 'unsupporting' Opera - what can we do?

I use Opera as my primary browser but I keep coming across sites (major ones at that) which are not only dropping support but actively putting splash screens
Latest on the list is LinkedIn, but google have clearly blocked hangouts working properly (no screen sharing any more) and Outlook now won't let me open attachements due to browser issues.
I have enabled a user agent switcher to spoof Chrome but it does not seem to work, so seems I am running out of options... given Chrome and Opera are effectively the same under the hood this seems crazy...
Surely we must all be in the same boat - is this the slow death of Opera?
