Favicons On Opera 53

I updated to 53.0 yesterday & until that time favicons only appeared when I visited the site as is usual with most browsers. As I detest favicons with all that I am I did have an extension which substituted the image with a plain folder that looks like a blank site. This morning Opera has spent around an hour setting each bookmark with a favicon. The extension to remove them is now useless & as I have near on 2000 bookmarks (some I visit very rarely) I find favicons nothing but a pain in the posterior.
I realize some love favicons & they are there by design but Opera's search for all the small images has slowed this PC down and made working this morning difficult & had to wait until it's finished. it's a fast PC with a fibre connection. I can set the favicon file (both) as read only but that doesn't stop opera looking they just don't get set & after a restart of Opera the process starts all over again. Neither Chrome or Edge don't go looking for favicons only when you visit the site.
Is there any resolution for these unwanted images that just mess my bookmarks up & Opera seem to think we all love them with a passion, I hate them & always have. BTW hello all & been using Opera since it was Ad supported

Roksan: Had a think this afternoon & realised as the rest of the world that has electricity loves favicons & there is just me that don't, added to the fact Opera is by far my favourite browser & I don't want to lose it I'm going to find away to live with favicons - This may require expensive psychological input but maybe I can do it. I've been looking at them a while ago & my hatred has diminished just a little, anyway the clinical psychologist has left now & I have some homework to do. .... Paul
