I have also faced this issue. while working on the pc suddenly system shows a message Program not Responding or freezes for sometimes. Then I visit Program not Responding Error This issue occurs due to having corrupt files, malware or Spyware or running of more than one software on the system.

I did a command prompt sfc /scannow
I'm reading on the net that sometimes you have to do this a few more times to fix things.
Also read that having the Windows source disk in the DVD drive at the time will grab the missing files from it instead.
What version of Windows? There's a bunch of stuff to try on https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7808-use-dism-repair-windows-10-image.html including pointing it to source files of a usb/dvd drive.
