As I said in the other thread, it is the case of "a package built for a different distro, with totally different libs and compilers", so I advise against that solution too.
      Good find though 🙂

        Here we go again!

Opera was playing most videos fine yesterday.

Updated today to Opera 51.0.2830.55, Stable Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS (x86_64; Unity) and most videos do not play anymore!

I think you have guessed the why by now. If not, please read my post here.

Chromium was updated to 65 the day before yesterday, from upstream, so the distros also upgtaded it and chromium codecs and now they are incompatible again with opera stable.

Also have Opera Dev 53.0 and discovered most but not all videos play on Opera Developer 53.0.2885.0 version.

Wish Opera 51.0.2830.55, Stable would update so videos can play again.

Of course they would not play. Chromium codecs got upgraded to a version that is incompatible with opera stable of today (march 15th 2018),
My question is why do you all jump from opera stable to opera developer in order to check things?

                @jimunderscorep

Awhile back I got both opera developer and opera Stable because someone here said developer ran better. Just wanted to see the difference between the two. So now when upgrades are sent both opera versions get upgraded.

I've always been curious about other browsers and how they perform. Also have Firefox, Chromium, Tor and Vivaldi but Opera always was my fav. Vivaldi was a nice surprise and plays so far any video thrown at it.

What distro are you on? If you are on something ubuntu based, what version of chromium codecs and vivaldi do you have installed?
As I said on a previous message, vivaldi's crappy toolkit (electron) is a dealbreaker for me and I will give it a change once they decide to move to a better one like gtk or qt.

Have Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS (x86_64; Unity)

Have Chrome Version 65 with codecs-ffmpeg-ex 65.0.3325. 146-Oubuntu0. 16.04.1 (Official Build) (64-bit), and Chrome is hardly ever used.
Have Vivaldi1.14.1077.55 (Stable channel) (64-bit) which is pretty snappy. Don't know anything about its toolkit but it seems to run fine and plays all videos thrown at it.

That's odd... Vivaldi 1.14 is based on chromium 64, so html stuff should not work properly there too. Unless they now provide a better libffmpeg with it. I'll check it later on.

Running 52.0.2871.40 - Opera is up to date and after updates was pleased to find most videos play fine now!

Did discover though when Opera VPN is enabled some sites don't play videos giving a message 'Flash needs to be enabled.' Then just like before you can't enable Flash even though you have it. Turn off Opera VPN and those videos play again well. Anyone know why this happens? Do some sites block videos from running if Opera VPN is detected running?

                          Hi all🙂 ,
I run fedora 26 on xfce environment. Opera needs a special flash. I installed this: "# dnf install flash-player-ppapi", now I can watch videos and more images. I hope to be useful for you.
                          Sorry for my English.
                          Have a nice trip...
