Crazy Lag in Messenger/WhatsApp Sidebar

I've been using Opera for - I don't even know how long - a decade? Anyway ... I use Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp in the sidebar pretty frequently.
They used to work perfectly but the past few weeks there has been an extreme lag in both. I'll type out a full sentence before the letters even appear on my screen. It has become unusable and extremely frustrating.
The only cause I can think of would be an Opera Update. I know they recently added in a cryptocurrency mining blocker. Nothing else has changed on my end ... I only have two extensions (LastPass and Honey) which I've always had. I'm still using the same (separate from Opera) IDEs and software I've always used (nothing sucking up all RAM/CPU or anything)
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I'm experiencing it too. I used to get horrible stuttering even if it wasn't active and, when it was, it was roughly 1 frame every 10 seconds. Couldn't type anything.
I found that right clicking and un-checking the Facebook Messenger option eliminates the lag, so it is obviously a problem with the sidebar, but as to what causes it and why it happens I do not know.

I'm having the exact same issue. It started out of nothing, and it was before the last update. Been using Opera for at least 2 years now, and been extremely satisfied with the Whatsapp side bar till now.

The sidebar should be:
- merged with extension sidebar
- release it from inclusive access only to social media giants
If the messengers are giving trouble - try this as alternative:
- turn the messengers off
- get addon "web panel"
- install it & enable
- in the web panel go to your messenger site and log in

Has anyone found a way to fix this? I'm still having trouble with the lag in the sidebar for whatsapp and messenger. I loved this feature and really want it to work again. Tried the web panel add on but it's not as good.
