Pop-out Video Player window aspect ratio

Previously, I used the pop-out player to have the video screen appear on my second monitor and resized to 1024x768 (the monitor's resolution) and videos playing would just fit into this without going outside the boundaries. Meaning that most videos played with black bars top and bottom due to them being 16x9 vids.
Now, the pop-out player doesn't fill my monitor with black bars. It instead either fills the screen with the sides of the video going outside the boundaries of the monitor (so I can't see them... like an old pan-and-scan VHS or something), or I scale the window so the video fits in width-ways, but now there's no black bars, just may wallpaper behind it.
Is there any setting I'm missing that can put it back the way it used to be? I really dislike that it's showing my wallpaper behind it and I'd rather not just have a black wallpaper for my second monitor. -

Looks like this is the "fix" for the issue where the pop-out player did not keep aspect ratio (DNA-65862). Relevant XKCD: https://xkcd.com/1172/
Along with Salithtaydan, I liked the "broken" functionality better, being able to resize the player to fit the maximum amount of space I wanted it to take up. Now, when my YouTube playlist changes songs, and the video now is at a different resolution, the player changes and covers up part of the screen i did not want it to
