Opera selected as Browser but Safari keeps being loaded

I am running OSX Capitan, 10.11.6 and even tho I selected Opera as the browser to load on startup, by system loads automatically Safari. Whats wrong?

You have to define Opera as your Standard-Browser: Open Safari and go to preferences and change the Standard-Browser to Opera. You can load Opera on startup, but it doesn't mean anything, because Safari is the Default-Browser, it will open any site, not Opera.

MY safari preferences say" Opera is the standard browser" yet Safari is the browser automatically loaded.???
