It's getting more important since WhatsApp is somehow trying to bury itself. Why don't you create a way to add own Pages to the sidebar or an easy way to create extensions that do this?

You can enable opera://flags/#sidebar-site-panel and add it yourselves

I can confirm that enabling opera://flags/#sidebar-site-panel as leocg suggested on Apr 17 2021 does indeed work for now. Just enable the flag, restart Opera, enter sidebar setup and scroll down to "Custom site panels". Add either http://web.threema.ch or https://web.threema.ch
