Back button stopped working after update

I can no longer go back one page, neither by clicking the '<' button or by pressing Alt+←, after updating to Opera 48.0.2685.50.
My mouse and my keyboard keys are functioning normally, except for this purpose. Also inexplicably, I can still go forward one page by clicking the '>' button or by pressing Alt+→.
I recently updated to macOS High Sierra (from Sierra), although things were still working before I updated Opera. I realize I can press and hold to bring up the list and select the most recent page, but is there any way to get my back button, well, back?
