Videos hang when opening links in background tab on Yahoo

When opening links in a background tab from a Yahoo source, the video shows downloading progress (spinning arrow) but never resolves. Requires reload and remaining on the tab to view the video. Since I'm on a microwave ISP, my bandwidth is capped so this will waste a fair bit of the monthly allowance.
If I open the link and stay on that tab, the video will play normally.
This is Opera 45.0.2552.812 on Win7 x64. All extensions are disabled as is active content filtering in KIS (normally use AdGuard and uBlock extensions).
