Opera Mail: Importing from Thunderbird

I have just installed opera mail and have followed the instructions for importing files/mail from Thunderbird, but I'm afraid it just doesn't work. Can anyone advise me as to what I could be doing incorrectly.

The main problem is that Opera Mail hasn't been updated nor supported for years now. So if it doesn't work then I'm afraid that it also won't work anytime soon.
One trick I once did when I moved from Thunderbird / SeaMonkey to Outlook (which is really horrible in supporting anything else) was to use IMAP. I basically set up my own IMAP server, uploaded all my messages and then imported those into Outlook. I'm sure this approach should also be usable on Opera Mail.
But... I'm not too sure if using Opera Mail is a good move to make, considering that even Opera themselves gave up on it (unfortunately).

You can use GMail to do Shelluser's trick.
