I want to run a portable version of Opera 15 or higher on a desktop. I went to portableapps.com but they only had O12. I found one site, Opera@USB, that has a portable version of 18 (http://www.opera-usb.com/operausben.htm), but I've never heard of this site before. Does Opera itself offer a portable version?

Yes, there's no need to rely on third-parties. Grab the regular installer from opera.com, run it and click the Options button. Change the folder to the desired one and switch the type of installation to "standalone (USB)".

Or get it from the official ftp link below and follow rafaelluik instructions.

          ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/

OK thanks, when I'm back at that work computer (which is why I need a portable opera) I'll try that. Unfortunately, we are asked for administrative login credentials whenever we try to install something, so I'm not sure I'll get that far, but I'll certainly give it a shot.

Great! I was able to install it as a USB app. Thanks for the tip.

It did put seveeral files/folders/shortcuts onto my desktop, so I deleted them, and then created a new folder on my desktop for this.
