Opera 42 and 43 opening default programs every time when mailto is defined as mail.google.com

Now I have seen people with the above issue and the answer seems to be not to use it and set it as the default mail system. (Windows 10)
While doing some testing on version 43 I noticed when running the shortcut (launcher.exe) or opera.exe that it keeps trying to do a command line register every startup of Opera. In opera, mail.google.com is defined correctly for mailto and the default handler for mailto is set to opera in Win 10, it appears that opera is not reading it correctly and keeps trying to register it. It keeps trying to run the following command:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera beta\43.0.2442.7\installer.exe" --register-opera-as-protocol-handler=mailto
Now if I reset mailto to defaults in windows everything works fine and I do not get the popup. Not a programmer but my "guess" is that Opera is not recognizing itself as a valid program when querying Windows Default program handler "mailto". And I repeated myself... sigh....
Now it may work fine for traditional programs, Thunderbird, etc. This is just for gmail
Anyone help?
