Opera 12.18 lagging real bad after a while

Having issues with Opera 12.18, recently it started to lag real bad after using the browser a while, it keeps lagging when i switch tabs & scroll up/down pages and even changing to Opera from another window.
Everytime it happens taskbar shows it's using 2.3GB sometimes 3GB of RAM, which i have more than enough (12GB @ 36% normal load), so everytime it happens i have to use taskbar to force close Opera and reopen so i can revert to all the pages i've opened up.
I've tried clearing the cache etc, reinstalled 12.18, but still doesn't work.
I don't know if Java or Flash has any effect but i've now disabled Java to see if it helps.
Am wondering anyone else had this issue.
I love Opera 12 because you can customize all the button locations unlike Opera 14, Firefox & Chrome, but this is getting serious and i'm contemplating whether to switch to Firefox completely.

Yes, it gets bogged down quite badly sometimes. Takes forever loading javascripts; what I have done is to install a javascript toggle button. When a page is bogged down I hit the button and it loads up just fine and can scroll again. Or just have js off as your default setting and toggle it on as needed. Surprisingly many sites work good without it
I wish opera would have pity on us and give us one last update to fix the issue. I have tried the other ones like vivaldi and otter browsers that aim to mimic opera but its just not the same
