Tabs open when starting Opera

When I open opera 41 on mac, two tabs open automatically. the first is
opera://startpage/ and the second is
Speed Dial

I have gone to Preferences and the Open at Start Page is selected. I have checked the Select Pages section of the Open at option and there is nothing listed there. I have deleted Opera and removed all files from the Library/applicationsupport/com.operasoftware.Opera and then re-installed but Opera still opens with the two tabs.
I have not changed any settings, someone please help me to stop these opening as it is very annoying as both display the same information.

On my previous version I was able to open Opera with a Blank Tab, how I miss that option.
