Unable to open opera.

Hi,
I have used Opera for some 5 years now and had no issues with it at all, and therefore been quite satisfied with it. Unfortunately some 6 weeks ago it began to display a box saying something along the lines of ‘A problem has caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available.’ Of course no assistance has been forthcoming so finally I uninstalled Opera and re-installed. I also carried out the usual malware and virus checks but without satisfaction. Having been unable to resolve the issue I have had no option but to cease using Opera. And finally the frustration has prompted me to contact the forum to seek advice. -

Find your Opera profile folder (check About Opera for its location) and rename it. Does this correct the problem?

I'm having same problem lately. It seems Opera is having some closing issues while your computer or Opera itself is busy. I'll report it after I've done more testing. I'll try to determine what's causing it and report it then.
Only fix I found so far is to restart my computer every time it happens.
And what you can do is be careful when closing Opera: let all pages fully load before you close them, close all of your tabs, wait several seconds and then close Opera, wait at least 1 min before opening Opera again. Unfortunately this doesn't help every time so there's a lot of restarts.
I've tried using another browser and it's just too hard to get used to them. I've decided to stay with Opera and keep restarting my computer.
