Customisation on macOS

It is impossible to customise such things as the browser tool bar on macOS. The instructions to do so are misleading because they do not distinguish between Windows and Mac versions and instruct me to cmd+click the tool bar and it should be surrounded by a yellow square allowing me to change the appearance of, add buttons or download users templates.
This is clearly not the case and although I love the browser features I would love to be able to make the existing buttons a little clearer by changing size, design or colour. -

Afaik: Under macOs it's not possible to customising the appearance of Opera (speaking of Opera 40) itself (Toolbar, Buttons etc.) You can only change the image of the startpage (under "Designs"), that's all. Perhaps with an extension?

Believe me I have tried to find an extension that can do this to no avail. There used to be a Google Chrome Tool Bar for Opera as a widget but it has been withdrawn. Also I dont think the current version of Opera accepts widgets.
