The new Opera Mini 8 brings us a modern and elegant appearance. Not everything is new, but they are sorted very appropriately. However, there's only one thing that bothers me. FONT DATA CALCULATION wastes time and drains battery. Unlike OM7, in order to complete this process, it needs about 20 minutes, it also drains battery too fast. For a complete process, my battery drops down from 53% to 9%. The device is much hotter than normal moreover. Hope Opera will solve this problem soon.

I can't believe this guys at opera are ignoring this issue! If it hapens to me again I will just have to delete the useless opera off my phone! This issue made me waste precious time when I needed to get online quickly! My font is set on small and I am using a blackberry bold 9900. I recently changed my phone font to a new 3rd party font though.. I don't think that should be a big geal, because other apps work just fine with the font and some don't even use the font which is okay with me, but this operamini will force you to waste your time with the font data calculation! How can I prevent it!

You can't prevent forced font calculation, anyway that should occur only ones at first startup. On dumb phones (with ahead-of-time compilator as in sony ericsson devices) calculation run 10-20 seconds until operation is finished (c510 is the champ). On s60 takes up to 50s with .sis app and something like 1% per minute with java version so I can only guess that Opera Mini doesn't run near to native code on all devices.
