Version: 18.0.1284.49 - Opera is up to date
      Update stream: Stable
      System: Windows 7 64-bit (WoW64)

Had problems with audio stuttering when playing youtube HTML5, and doing something else intensive on the computer at the same time (Loading another ad-loaded webpage was enough).

Sifting through the task manager revealed the problem. For some reason, Opera has decided that it is a good idea to run all Opera processes in BelowNormal priority. Manually set all processes to Normal, and voila the problem is gone.

Shouldn't this be corrected? Why run the browser in Below Normal task priority? Checked both IE and FF, both run in Normal.

I assume that it's because each tab is running in a separate process. Maybe someone who knows can tell you more.

I can confirm the observations of tobiasra.

I suspect the change is the result of this discussion:

For me Opium dynamically changes priority to Normal (8) for the foreground tab, and Below Normal (6) to background tabs. Video does stutter occasionally on the configuration where Opera 12 works well.

I'm not sure how this can be resolved because in the previous situation pages overloaded with Flash could hang a PC. Perhaps like with all normal software that deals with multimedia playback, a process/thread priority setting could be added. Do not be afraid of a Preferences dialog. The browser is not exactly a media player. But if you try to combine the functionality of one into it, a large options dialog seems unavoidable, for use cases, where the browser is mainly used for semi-realtime media playback, or browsing.
