I am still using XP and I downloaded it to try the VPN, but the downloaded version is 36 something which has no VPN in it. If you don't support XP anymore just say so, don't waste people's time. Also when I try to uninstall it in the control panel, it just says it cannot be uninstalled in that location, please fix it.

I don't think they're gonna add any features to 36.
        Try finding a client then.

They do say so. Read the system requirements:

          https://www.opera.com/download/requirements/

While they do provide security updates for version 36, which is the last one for Windows XP, it won't include new feature updates.

Also when I try to uninstall it in the control panel, it just says it cannot be uninstalled in that location, please fix it.

Sound like a problem with Windows' uninstaller functions. They might be failing, which is not an unlikely issue with a 15-year-old OS. Try Revo Uninstaller. It might be able to get around the issue with the OS.

I installed Opera on another Win10 machine, the VPN keeps saying temporarily unavailable, doesn't look very useful. Never had much good experience with Opera anyway, I'll just stick with Firefox and Chrome.

Chrome doesn't support Windows XP either. They are the reason Opera dropped support for it in fact.
