"Profile Did Not Load Properly" - Now all saved passwords are gone

  • Running Opera 39.0.2256.71 on Linux Mint 18. All was great until just now. Opened Opera and got "Profile Did Not Load Properly" pop up. Now all my saved passwords are gone. What the heck happened? Can they be recovered? Or am I screwed?

  • Hmmm. I may have fixed it. I went to Nemo (the Linux Mint 18 file browser for Cinnamon) and clicked "show hidden files. Went to /home/unclespellbinder/.config/opera. Deleted that and reopened Opera. Signed in again and my bookmarks and passwords are back. Is this normal?

  • Happened again. What could cause this? It never happened in Windows. It's just not usable in Linux. X(

  • This is probably because you're running Opera as root, have run Opera as root, or if you've manually changed the permissions of the .config/opera folder.

  • Nope. At least not that I'm aware of. Downloaded the .deb from the official Opera download page. Installed via gdebi. Opened. Synced. No modifications made by me at all. Everything was default. All was fine for a couple days. Then this. Also happened on Manjaro XFCE.

  • Anybody????????????????????????
